The Magic of Light - 6 - 27 January

A 4-week online painting course, producing 4 different, original paintings, inspired by the magical effects of light.

From dappled light to contre-jour; warm interior light to cold northern light; direct light or defused light; light has been a preoccupation for artists for centuries. During these painting classes, we will explore a range of successful painting techniques and approaches to capturing, not a subject, but light itself. 

This online, oil painting course will begin in January and is suitable for artists of all abilities, looking to improve their painting skills and the ability to capture light in their paintings.

These virtual, paint-a-long lessons will run via Zoom on Monday mornings. You will also have the ability to re-watch the Zoom recording anytime, via this Zoom course website page, as many times as you like. 

During the 4 weeks, we will cover the following:

• Capturing the visual effect of silhouette using simple shapes.

• Contre-jour and dazzling, direct, sparkling light.  

• Painting strongly cast shadows on a brightly lit cottage.

• Exploring warm and cool light in a Venetian scene. 

What is included:

• 4 x 3 hour Zoom sessions

• Watch the sessions live and have life-time access to re-watch the lessons as many times as you need 

• Teaching notes for each class posted to the lesson page once the class has taken place, including the photo Peter will be working from. 

• Excellent images to work from (or you can use your own images)

By the end of this course, you will have created at least 4 different paintings.

How to join this class:

First you need to sign up to this class by creating a username and password. These will be the details you enter each time you wish to join the live class or watch back a recorded lesson and to see the reference image Peter will be working from.

Each of the lesson pages (below) will include everything you need to take part in each live the lesson including the Zoom link, the reference image Peter will be working from, materials list and, once the lesson has taken place, the link for you to rewatch the class as many times as you need as well as the detailed written notes.
